Frequently Asked Questions

How long will products last?

It is possible that product will protect against heat for the life of the car!

What is the product make up?

Each part of the system has proprietary and patented components.

What is the cost?

Most cars can have the complete fire box, fire wall, and shifter boot and hoses (AFES -F1 flexible coating) coated for under $1000

How much of AFES 2 part system is needed to coat necessary parts?

Sandwiching the chassis metal (coating the underside and inside of the car firewall and firebox) provides the optimum insulative and fire extinguishing performance.

Approximately 3 gal part 1 -insulating/flame barrier and 5 gal part 2 - extinguishing barrier will achieve this result.

Approximately 2 gal part 1 -insulating/flame barrier and 4 gal part 2 - extinguishing barrier covers a complete exterior side fire wall and fire box, but hotter cars could require more.

1 gallon of AFES F1 flexible coating is enough to brush on most flexible components including shifter boots, hoses, grommets and fuel lines.

1 quart of fireproof putty is enough to do a complete car's windshield, plastic seals, openings, air gaps.

What special tools/ equipment will be required to apply product?

Product comes in a liquid two, 1 part systems. It is sprayed on with common air equipment. Small section or repair /patch applications can be done with a quality brush and liberal coating

How will product be applied?

Multiple coat spray on, similar to elastomerics, or mastics.

Slightly elevated temperatures are recommended to improve levelness and speed of dry.

How much weight will it add to the vehicle?

Standard application of the chassis coating adds 10 oz / ft2 of weight but can replace many other heat management items.

In most applications, cured coating system adds approximately 30 lbs for the 'one side' and 50/60 lbs for 'sandwiched' application, and could eliminate other compromising items, cool boxes (horsepower robbing), ducting (increase air resistance), or interior floor blankets (weight and black, toxic smoke), metal exhaust pipe pads.
